The Poky Little Pundit

About

Enjoying a rare moment of toddler love with my son, George, who does not like to give kisses. Ever. I may have bribed him to kiss me here.

The skinny: Kristina is a nihilistic democrat who dabbles in socialism, writes young adult novels and teaches young adults in Seattle.

The fat: Okay, so I really don’t know what I am, politically speaking. I know less than most high school seniors taking AP Gov. I know I am happy to help pay for people who don’t have health insurance or who are hungry, and I want to be at my gay friends’ weddings, and I want women to have autonomy over their own bodies. I guess these things make me a Democrat. But I know there is more to it than this (at least I bloody well hope so). I feel an increasing sense of urgency to LEARN – to be active, to take part, to converse at speed with other politically-minded people. I am criminally ill-informed, and I don’t want to be anymore.

The stuff for people who are compulsive readers like myself: I have been a high school English teacher for 15 years in three different countries. I took a leave of absence a few years ago to write a book, write this blog, and write a bunch of other stuff for people who will pay me for writing. You can kind of see here that I like writing.  There’s a whole lot of stuff I don’t like, which you will no doubt figure out when you start reading my blog. A good place to insert one of my favorite quotes (teachers love quotes):  “I write because I hate. A lot. Hard.”  – William Gass

Oh! And I want to make sure to give credit to my masthead designer, Ava Lukens. Thanks! You are amazing!

UPDATE: Right after my final post in 2014, my now ex-husband told me he wanted a divorce (hence the end of posting and all things subsidiary to survival). I’m thinking about writing stuff again, but still pretty much just working and taking care of kids. Stay tuned.

  1. The “criminally ill-informed” has just inspired me to look up the word “nihilistic” – she may not suffer alone.

  2. Being “active” (thus, an “activist”) is better than being inactive.

  3. just spent a LONG time reading. I love it, I connect on so many of your thoughts. Thanks for sharing them, I will be back for more. 🙂

  4. we found your blog and think it’s super cool.
